Kitchen décor is dictated by the style and look of cabinets. Buying kitchen cabinets therefore is a decision that you need to seriously think through in terms of its durability, material, look and of course your budget. It also requires thorough comparison of the available products and their price range. You can then make an informed decision on one that suits your style and budget.

When buying kitchen cabinets, you should accurately take the measurements of your kitchen space that will be occupied by cabinets. Decide on how much budget you will keep aside for the same. Once you finalize the budget, you can easily make a choice between the following:

  • Stock, semi-customized or fully customized cabinets.
  • Cabinet accessories like dividers, handles, knobs etc.
  • Styles and colors of the cabinets.

Moving into a college town for the summer? Maybe you just graduated and you’re looking forward to moving into your new place. Before you move all of your “stuff” in, there are a few things you might want to consider before filling your kitchen with a bunch of things you will simply never use. One thing is for certain; you do not want a kitchen full of clutter, especially if your kitchen runs on the small side. Here is a list of the 5 things you must have in your kitchen.

1. Colander!

This is a must have! Often this item is overlooked and not even considered until you realize you have to drain noodles for spaghetti. Noodles come in all shapes and sizes when you’re cooking for in your college housing. You don’t want to have to slowly pour the water out avoiding burns and all of your food dumping out. There really isn’t any secret to finding a suitable colander to use….

If you live in an area with hard water, you have probably noticed a recent change in the performance of your dishwasher. Specifically, your dishes might have a white film or residue on them after they go through your automatic dishwasher. In addition to looking dirty, these “clean” dishes can also feel gritty or sandy when you handle them. Some people have grown quite frustrated because they have been unable to find a solution to this problem. One week the dishwasher was working fine, then, in a matter of a few days, the dishes began looking terrible.

I have been researching this problem since the fall of 2010 and wanted to share what I have learned. Beginning in the summer of 2010, many state governments began passing laws that changed the ingredients in dishwashing detergent. For example, the law went into effect in Massachusetts, Washington, and Oregon on July…

Kitchen is the focal room of your home and needs as much of décor planning as a living room or bedroom. As you spend a lot of time in the kitchen, it is imperative that the look and feel is soothing, relaxing and pleasing. Who would want to work in a dull, boring and shady kitchen? This is where you can come up with creative ideas to give a great look to your kitchen and that too in an inexpensive way.

Kitchen cabinet ideas like painting, designing, refacing or refinishing are a great way to renovate your kitchen without having to go through a tedious task of replacing them with a new set of cabinets. This of course does not apply to kitchen cabinets that are in completely damaged state… they do need replacement.

There’s nothing worse than a cluttered and crowded kitchen. Besides the potential safety threats a congested kitchen might pose, busy kitchens can be frustrating and difficult to work in. Kitchens are in many ways the nucleus of a household. So much happens within these small spaces. We use this room on an almost non-stop basis to store food, dishes, silverware, cleaning supplies, appliances, to prepare and cook in, to dine in, to entertain in. We do so much in this room of our home that it often becomes the space that is most cluttered and unorganized. Appropriate organization can be even more difficult to manage in a petite kitchen. With limited cabinet space and limited counter space, it can be nearly impossible to situate all of our beloved cooking tools in an orderly manner. These four tips can help even the smallest of kitchens become roomy and functional.

1. Stack…

Before you set any designer plans for your kitchen, it is imperative to design the basic layout. The layout will not only decide the flow of work from one section to another, it is also important for the arrangement of cabinets. Hence kitchen cabinet layouts should be planned prior to choosing your cabinets.

Just as with the kitchen layouts, cabinets are arranged in the same order, i.e., Single Line, U-shaped and L-shaped. The basic kitchen cabinet layout would be a single line arrangement wherein the cabinets are arranged in a single straight order. This arrangement is ideal for small kitchens wherein space is a constraint and this arrangement provides ease of access and work in the kitchen. However, with this arrangement, the storage may be constrained in a small kitchen. For a large kitchen however, this arrangement is good enough as storage and ease of work both are possible. The wall cabinets too are…

Clutter is the last thing one wants in a kitchen, where already there is so much to keep, take out, shift and clean. Cooking being a meticulous task, it requires that we have the kitchen items neatly organized in their respective places; else it may affect not only our cooking process but also our food. This is where kitchen cabinet organizers are of prime importance and should be selected thoughtfully.
